This is another of the films I recently watched at ShockerFest in Riverbank, Ca. When I first started on this one, I got to say I was afraid I was going to be tremendously disappointed.
The sets, the costumes, even the story seemed either so goofy looking or so familiar that I was not looking forward to much.
It took a few minutes for it to finally start to make sense, and once I figured out what was going on the movie actually impressed me with its quality and fun.
I will admit, the biggest thing about this film was Tom Baker. And even though you could not see him, the idea of a former "Time Lord" as the guardian of a time machine and interfering in the lives of two young people still struck me as funny and entertaining.
I kept hoping he would wrap a scarf around his neck.
Anyway, Jason and Kaila are two kids who once dated but broke up over some silly problem. Jason did not move on, but Kaila did planning to marry Paul in just a few days.
Jason goes for a ride on the wedding day, and when he returns he is told by his roommate several confusing stories but the gist of it is "Go to Canada!"
It starts to get confusing at this point, with time traveling brides, attacking alien beings, a short goofy person named Zymo and a laboratory some 7,000 years in our future.
The film moves from now, to the future, to now, to the future, to a little in the past, to a little in the future to the future to now and finally about 10 years into the future.
While it does not answer a lot of questions, such as why these two in particular or where Zymo is from, it is one of the best little films I have seen in a long time.
Yes, it is a "B" movie; but it is supposed to be. That is the magic and the beauty of the thing. Done on what was probably a shoe string budget, the movie carries through with a nice set of characters and a pretty good story, much above a lot of the chaff you see now. And way better then some of the stuff you get on Sci-Fi channel on Saturday night.
If you get a chance, go see it. It is a gem in a field of poop.
