I try to be humble. But I just can't!

Rafael was the perfect salesman. He could sell anything to any customer. He liked to work with the ladies and they certainly liked to work with him. The sales floor of the department store where Rafael worked was filled with the most amazing women. And he had sex with all of them. Rafael knew that he wanted to be different, elegant. To be mediocre would be the death of him.

And there was one other thing that he wanted; to be floor manager. It was a competition between Rafael and the head of the men's department, Don Antonio. On the final night of the competition it looks like Rafael is the obvious winner, but something happens to take that away from him and Don Antonio is elected floor manager. It takes moments before Don Antonio is rubbing Rafael's face in it. The two men clash, struggle, fight and when they are finished, Don Antonio is dead.

It was an accident, but there was a witness to the deed. In all of the department store there is one woman who Rafael has not bedded. Lourdes is a mousy woman who tends to stay in the shadows. There is only one thing she wants in all the world. She wants Rafael and now she has him right where she wants him. Especially after she helps him dispose of the body.
Soon Rafael is sliding down the slippery slope of mediocrity and marriage to a woman that he can not stand. There is only one thing that can get him out of this situation.
Someone must die.

I know that this sounds like some film noir or giallo film, but this is one of the funniest films I have seen in years. The man who gave us such exceptional films like Accion Mutante and The Day of the Beast now gives us one of the funniest, blackest comedies to come along in quite some time. Rafael constantly breaks the fourth wall to further our amusement and after Don Antonio dies he keeps coming back as a ghost in various costumes but always with a cleaver imbedded in his head and smoke rolling off of him.

There is a scene where Rafael has rented a bunch of crime films to try and figure out a way out of his situation. He and Don Antonio are sitting on the couch and eating a bowl of popcorn when they hear Lourdes coming, Don Antonio jumps up and helps hide the movies. There is a lot of laugh out loud moments in what could have been, in less capable hands, a mess of a film.

Tartan Video has brought another film to America that I would consider to be necessary viewing. Forget about the new releases at the theater and be sure to catch this one. It's funny, engaging and really, you will never see the end of this flick coming. Right to the end we are forced to watch every frame of film and marvel in what can only be called…THE PERFECT CRIME.
