There are not many movies/DVD=s that can equal the visual impact of my first viewing of Star Wars in 1977, but Sky Captain can. Kerry and Kevin Conran are to be congratulated (with an academy award) for their visual masterpiece. The 1939 Worlds Fair/Metropolis theme that runs through the film suits the highly nostalgic plot perfectly. Elements of Rocket Man, Buck Rogers, Captain Midnight, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Superman, and any RKO serial are flawlessly intertwined with the world domination plans of Dr Totenkopf.

The genius of this film is that it is in reality a moving comic book. But, in either format, it is a winner. The characters in the film, Polly Perkins, Sky Captain (Joseph Sullivan), Dex, and Captain Franky Cook, encompass many classic heroes. The sound track is moody, and fits the film perfectly.

The special features on the disc include the original 6 minute trailer, commentaries, photo galleries, and the art of the film. Not too much, not too little.

If quality is eternal, then Sky Captain will live forever!
