Hide And Seek...With DeNiro

The DVD jacket proclaims >A Chilling Roller coaster ride=, and after watching AHide and Seek@, they=re not far from the truth.

Robert DeNiro, Dakota Fanning, and Elizabeth Shue star in this 20th Century Fox thriller directed by John Polston. AHide and Seek@ enters dangerous territory with a murderer on the loose in a house already on high emotional alert.

In a house in upstate New York, widow David Callaway tries to deal with the murder of his wife in their old home, while helping his withdrawn daughter cope with the loss. Enter Charlie, a somewhat imaginary friend who plays a dangerous game with the father and daughter. When Emily develops a love for the dark AI don=t need the light anymore daddy@, and DeNiro expresses concern, a distance begins.

The suspense of the film draws on the mystery of Charlie. Who is Charlie? Why does Emily >talk= to Charlie? Does David also see Charlie? The psychological training of Dr Callaway does little to help the situation as the trauma goes deep-and apparently all is well when Emily says AI Like it here now.@.

What happens will scare you to your roots. The trauma of his wife=s murder, and the stress of dealing with single fatherhood gets to Dr Callaway. Only too late does his daughter realize that Charlie is her father, who clicks into psychotic nature. When he tries to kill his daughter, she flees and her father is killed. But what he never reaized is that the trauma created a split in his daughter as well. The blind killing the blind.

This film is jam packed with suspense. Both DeNiro and Fanning portray the horror and psychological terror well and create a film you can believe. With the 5 endings, you can see the possibilities...you pick the end.

The special features include 14 deleted scenes, the storyboard, and audio commentary from John Polson, Ari Schlossberg, and Jeffrey Ford (editor).

Hide and Seek will never be the same again.
