Review by Douglas A. Waltz

In the country, near the sea lives an old woman who is crippled, dying of some malady and used to be an elementary school teacher. A group of her former students come to visit her before she dies. It all comes across as a sweet reunion.

Then it gets nasty.

Our crippled, sweet, demure Mrs. Park actually gave birth to a monster and was a vicious human being. She beat her students, tortured them psychologically and, in one case, molested a young man. Not your typical teacher.

Then the murders start. One young man is hacked to pieces and force fed razor blades. His girlfriend has her eyes stapled shut and the list continues. Think you know who the killer is? Think again. Then when the flick lays it all out for you and you’re in your comfort zone with knowing who all the players are and their particular motivations…BAM! The rug is yanked so violently out from under you that you can actually feel your neck snap back.

I could give more details concerning the film but this is a ride you really want to go on with as little forewarning as possible. You’ll thank me for it later.

BLOODY REUNION uses a few of the basic staples of the classic ‘80’s genre and then turns everything on its ear. All stereotypes are turned around and thrown in your face. This is not a film that works its movie magic and then disappears with the memories of all those ‘other’movies you seen. BLOODY REUNION will be stuck in your frontal lobe for quite some time.

No creepy Asian ghost kids. No haunted videotapes. None of that supernatural mumbo jumbo bullshit. BLOODY REUNUION is a reflection of the human condition. The sick and twisted underbelly of what can happen below the surface where everyone appears normal, only they aren’t.

Director Lim Dae-Woong has made a memorable first film. Part of me can’t wait to see what he comes up with next. The other part is sort of nervous to watch it.
