Subject PG-13
I am becoming more and more frustrated with this MPAA rating. I am actually
frustrated with the entire rating system, but this one in particular is getting
on my nerves. The rating was designed so that Steven Spielberg could keep the
more graphic elements of Indiana Jones intact. YOu know the melting, exploding
Nazi finale? Anyway, since that time it has been abused and now embraced by
the horror community. What is the deal with all of these Buffy flicks coming
out that are just badly remade asian films? And they manage to keep Buffy's
clothes on so they can have that PG-13 rating.
It's time to abolish it and get back to the original crappy set of ratings;
G- disney flicks and their ilk
PG-Parental Guidance. This means that the film makers believe that a child's parent and or guardian should be along for the ride in case there is questionable material that needs to be immediately diffused to prevent permanet emotional scarring. In other words, it's your call on how well you know your kid.
R - You must attend this with your kid. No questions asked. Card everyone at the door and if you ain't 17 (although, I really think it should be 15 or 16) you ain't getting in.
NC -17 - This one spells it out for the slow people. If you're not 17 or older then you don't get to watch the adult themed titty fest.
These seems to work pretty good. The PG-13 is like a license to show some titillation and loads of scary jump at you crap and get away from the R rating.
You know what? When I was a kid we didn't have the PG-13 rating. We watched what we watched when we could and we all turned out fine. A little odd, maybe, but fine.
Parents need to take more responsibility for the actions of their children and get involved in their lives. Anything else is just pure laziness.
NOTE: I just finished a great biography entitled HOLY TERROR. It tells of author Bob Cocacello's involvement with Andy Warhol in the 70's up to the time of his death. It's a great book, but MySpace didn't have it as a choice in their list. Just thought I would give a heads up to anyone who reads this stuff that they might want to check this one out.
Seeya!
