The Starship
Enterprise Continues her Five-Year Mission
San Diego, CA (May 24, 2007) —"Space, the
final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise."
With that opening, one of the most iconic narrations ever to be spoken on
a TV series was born. The voice-over continues, "Its five-year mission:
To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and
new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before."
While that five-year mission only lasted three seasons on television, fans
of the show will be happy to learn that the remaining two years have not been
lost. In July, IDW Publishing will launch the first of a series of comics
that depict all-new adventures from the show's beloved cast of characters.
Long-time enthusiasts and new readers alike will have the opportunity to follow
stories that capture the true spirit of the original series.
The series will present an entire self-contained "episode"
in every issue. The debut issue begins when the crew discovers a multi-planet
construct of a dead civilization, which is run by a brilliant genetic scientist
who's obsessed with repopulating it. When Captain Kirk discovers the scientist's
secret, his creations revolt, forcing Kirk to make the hard decision to push
the Enterprise into crossfire.
