NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS 3D
review by George Baker
(From the Editor: Looks like I did something else at ShockerFest I didn't expect. I was able to get some more people for reviews. Lets give George a big hand, and let him know he is welcome. He makes his own films and he knows what movies are supposed to be about.)
This review done through Galaxy
Theaters, Riverbank California.
I am old enough to remember 3-D movies from the 1950s, 1960s and the attempts
at things like Jaws 3D. While the early ones had novelty going for them, the
more recent efforts were merely attempts to capture some of the nostalgia crowd.
. . until now, that is.
I have to say that I am a fan of the original Nightmare Before Christmas, so
I went into the movie expecting to see a classic tale once again. I was wrong.
The story was the same, the music was the same, the dialog was the same. . .
but the picture was different. So different that I would recommend that anyone
who has rejected 3D movies as a passing fancy, reconsider that position.
Disney Studios in conjunction with Pixar has not only made a classic film better,
they made is seem like a new film. The colors were more vibrant, the action
crisper and the 3-D more realistic than anything I have see . . ever.
Back in the old days of 3-D movies, I used to get terrible headaches from trying
to wear the red and blue glasses. Since I wear glasses anyway, I had to try
to wear them over my glasses or under my glasses. Neither worked effectively.
Not the case here. The new 3-D glasses fit over my regular glasses perfectly
and guess what -- NO HEADACHE!
I was with my wife (who had seen the film) and my grandson (who had not seen
the film) Both reacted the same. "WOW, THAT WAS COOL."
And what made it all that much more special was that it was at the Galaxy
Theatre in Riverbank, and we were their invited guests. The theatre was
filled with people, there were promotions and fun going on and I listened, as
much to the audience as to the movie, and they were all reacting the say way.
If this film is any indication of what Disney can do, then I am looking forward
to their next 3-D offering -- Meet the Robinsons, coming in March. Save your
pennies, believe me, it will be worth the ride.
