RATING (0 TO ****): * 1/2

Chicken Little is the latest attempt by Disney to show they can do the same type of work as Pixar. They can't. While Chicken Little is not bad, it is nowhere as good as Toy Story, Finding Nemo and does not come within light years of The Incredibles. But, as family fare it was fun and there were a few good laughs in it.
Yes, Disney proves they can use a computer to create a world where chickens and other animals run around like humans. But what they could not do was instill in the film the heart and emotion that Pixar always seemed able to achieve.
The director of Chicken Little also directed The Emperor's New Groove, which I liked. And the writing team is the one that gave us the emotional Brother Bear, but even with that pedigree the film is little more then the collected scenes from the commercials and trailers, with some of the really good stuff from the trailer left off.
The story is based on the time after Chicken Little has his famous "sky is falling" problem and deals more with his attempts to make his father, former high school athletic star "Buck" Cluck not be so ashamed of him. Typical teen-age angst film that we have seen before, this time with talking animals.
And of course, there were songs. Crappy, sugary sweet songs that will make you gag on your popcorn.
As I said, there were a few good laughs, but most of the comedy seems aimed at a viewer not old enough to have seen Toy Story or some of the earlier Pixar or even older Disney cartoons. Yes, I said 'cartoons'; it is what they are in reality.
With the story starting to die we are introduced to the reason "the sky was falling"; the introduction of the adversary did not improve the story much.
It was expected, and implied by a few scenes early in the film.
I would like my wife to see it; she deals with kid's everyday so she might see some of the humor I missed.
The film is rated "G" and is fine for children of just about any age.
