XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS Issues 1 and 4
Writers-various Artists-various
Now, I have nothing against comics based on television shows. That's a whole
sub genre that has existed since, well television. I can remember seeing comics
for the likes of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW for crying out loud so, who can fault
them for making a comic book out of XENA. She's a lot prettier than Dick Van
Dyke so it makes sense. I did like how the comic just took off and didn't get
bogged down with back-story. In issue one she's fighting a Predator oops, I
mean an alien that just looks a lot like a Predator. Wouldn't want to tick off
Dark Horse, would we?
Issue 4 seems a lot more like the show which means we have to put up with badly
rendered images of Bruce Campbell. And that's another thing! It's only been
four issues and already there has been more than one artist/writer team? A little
more continuity with style might make this a better book, not just something
that people over at Dynamite Entertainment cobble together when they have the
time. If not that then just do what they did in the golden age of comics. Don't
put anyone's name on it. It will be a blast from the past and less of an ego
massage for some comic professionals. That will never catch on.
