CAPTAIN AMERICA DEAD???WTF????
So, when did Marvel Comics get bought out by DC Comics? Is anyone besides me sick to death of the comic industry using death to boost sales? When comics were in their heyday they sold millions of copies a month. Why? Wasn't the price, because a quarter then is probably three bucks today so, the price is the same. The art back then wasn't nearly as polished as what we get today, but those guys back then could make a comic page sing! Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Jim Mooney (look it up), Neal Adams. They were making graphic history because they knew that people wanted to read a well done comic. Nowadays, it's almost all about who is doing the comic as opposed to what the comic is about.
This is wrong. Comics, by their very nature are an escapist form of literature. We get people with extraordinary abilities putting their lives on the line saving us mere mortals from...well, guys in freaky costumes who are bad guys. Sure, during WWII we got a lot of comics where the heroes were handing Hitler his butt on a regular basis. That was fun! Why isn't there more of Osama getting a hot foot from The Human Torch? I'll tell you why.
It isn't Politically Correct.
And that is what is wrong with the world today. Politically Correct is another way of straddling the fence. Oh, we don't want to offend anyone so we'll just get along with everyone else. Damn having strong beliefs and opinions in anything. That would be very P.C.
Worst case scenario;
PC Christians. By the very definition of Christians and what Jesus expects of those of us who have been saved by his sacrifice for our sins, we can't be PC. It's not alright that many things occur in our modern society. You have to take a stand in what you believe in and keep it that way. You'll be a better person and while you may rub a few people the wrong way, in the end even they will admire you because you stuck to your convictions.
Really has nothing to do with those sad SOB's over at Marvel who killed my favorite character, does it? Oh, well. I'm not too worried about it. Something will happen that will bring Captain America back after they've squeezed every last nickel from the unsuspecting public. Really dumb though killing the character that stands for truth, justice and the American way while we're in a war in the Middle East. Seems like he should be used to inspire the troops, not make them sad that he's gone. Way to go Marvel.
Finally, if Marvel does decide to bring Captain America back and it's not Steve Rogers, kind of like what DC Comics did a whileback with Blue Beetle, another of my favorite characters, I will drive to New York City. I will go to the offices of Marvel Comics. I will walk up to the guy in charge and viciously shake him and scream in his face until he wets his pants. I'm a pretty big guy and most people mistake me for some kind of biker. Must be the shaved head and long beard.
That is what I'm gonna do.
What are you gonna do?
Editors Note: Douglas Waltz, normally a pretty easy going sort of person, does get a bit testy when he hasn't had his morning coffee.
