The Army of Darkness crossover no one ever expected to see.
Following directly on the heels of "Shop Till You Drop" we find Ash
still dressed an Elvis and now blamed for the murder and destruction that has
occurred at the S-Mart store.
Now Ash finds himself a mental patient in a hospital where Doctor Herbert (the
Re-Animator) West is both hiding and working. West is still trying to return
the dead to life, but now has teamed up with a priest of the Old Gods who wants
to use the Necronomican to bring them back and unleash Hell on Earth.
What more could you want in an "Army of Darkness" book? Killer beds,
deadites, great art, a funny and suspenseful story and now the addition of a
new beauty named Sugarbaby.
She and her friend, Deuce Bellcampo have rescued Ash and now have to work together
to stop West, and the evil of the Necronomican from being unleashed.
Sanford Greene delivers a great job on pencils and Scott Kester's colors work
helps to bring the action to the forefront. It is easy to see the influence
of Ash from the films in the work on the book. And James Kuhoric's dialogue
is funny, but has the same moments that "Evil Dead" fans always want
and look for in an "Army of Darkness" title.
So, locked in a madhouse, surrounded by the re-animated abominations created
by Herbert West, can Ash and his band of ignoble heroes defeat the Deadite-infested
madhouse?
How will they fare against an entire wing of undead inmates, find the Necronomican
and send the evil spirits back before the gateway to the Old Ones is opened,
allowing the destruction of the human race?
It is three against hundreds! But when one of those three is Ash Williams, the
bad guys are gonna need more Deadites.
