Okay, let’s cover what the novel covers. It is the events leading up to the creation of man and the fall from grace of Lucifer.
That’s it.
My first question is; Didn’t Neil Gaiman cover all of this is his Sandman series in DC Comics? I think he did and he had a distinct advantage in that he had an artist render his prose into a thing of beauty.
It is listed as a work of fiction and that is certainly a good thing. We’ve got everybody in First Heaven (What the…?) riding around on horseback even though horses haven’t been created yet. And then there are the angels in charge of the DNA that will be used to create mankind (Huh?) and the spiffy holograms that they use. And of course let us not forget that magical moment when Jesus descended to Earth to inhabit the child he was to become with laser beams coming out of his mouth. (Okay, that’s enough.)
Being a good Christian it boggles my mind that someone’s mind works this way. The concepts introduced in the novel (see above for said concepts) are just, I dunno, weird. Now that being said, realize that this is just my opinion. I’m sure that many people will probably buy this book. Author Wendy Alec is the cofounder of GOD TV, Europe’s leading Christian broadcasting network. With that amount of clout I’m sure she already has a pre sold audience and that’s fine. It’s just a shame that the book is really, really bad. If you removed all the adjectives that relate to colors in the book it would make this a short story. And I’m sorry, but if I never see the word ‘pearlescent’ again I will meet my maker a happy man. Happy as long as he doesn’t zap me with those laser beams that come out of his mouth.
The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I wouldn’t recommend this novel to anyone. Well, not anyone. If there were people who had no idea how the basis of Christianity worked or had never even heard of God they might like it.
